Author Guest, Brooks Sherman
Brooks Sherman is a literary agent with the Bent Agency. He previously worked as a literary agent at FinePrint Literary Management and in the managing editorial department of Henry Holt and Company. Before starting his career in publishing, he spent several years working in the entertainment industry (in both New York and Hollywood), and two years with the Peace Corps in West Africa. Brooks is a hands-on, editorial agent who delights in developing projects with his clients before bringing them to the attention of publishers. His predilection is for projects that balance strong voice with gripping plot lines. (Stories that make him laugh earn extra points!) He is on the lookout for adult fiction that runs the gamut from literary and upmarket to speculative (particularly fantasy rooted in realistic settings, horror, and magical realism), as well as historical and crime fiction. On the children’s side, he is seeking middle grade novels of all genres (but particularly fantasy and fantasy adventure), and is open to YA fiction of all types except paranormal romance. You can find Brooks sharing publishing news and horrible puns on Twitter: @byobrooks.
