About Deep South Con

JordanCon has had the privilege of hosting DeepSouthCon previously. JordanCon 8 (2016) was selected as the site of DeepSouthCon 54 after the original convention "ABC DSC" was canceled. JordanCon originally hosted DeepSouthCon in 2013.

DeepSouthCon is the south's premier regional Science Fiction Convention, held every year in a different southern city. JordanCon is a natural fit to host a DeepSouthCon. We have a strong focus on literature programming, are named in honor of one of the South's most famous fantasy writers and frequently feature local and regional
authors as part of our programming.

As part of DeepSouthCon, JordanCon hosted several special events. One of these is the Annual Hearts Tournament. This is traditionally a very social and casual event and a great way to meet new fans. We were also responsible for administering the annual Phoenix and Rebel awards. The Phoenix is given to the professional (writer, editor or artist) who has done the most for southern fandom. The Rebel is awarded to the fan who has done the most for southern fandom. In 2013 we awarded the Phoenix to Robert Jordan and the Rebel to fans M. Lee Rogers and Regina Kirby.

Some programming reflected the long and sometimes sordid history of Atlanta fandom, from "Confederation", the 1986 Atlanta WorldCon, to the rise of DragonCon and other fan gatherings big and small. We also chaired the annual meeting of the Southern Fandom Confederation and administered the site selection vote for DeepSouthCon 56.
